Prayer isn’t the only thing. But it is the FIRST thing.

Intimate communion with God in prayer and intercession is the birthplace and forge of ALL fruitful Christian ministry.

It is a mistake to imagine that “prayer” and “action” are simply two equally viable alternatives competing for our precious time resources. That mindset can lead us to the carnal conclusion that we’ll let others, such as the “knitting club”, do the praying while we, the “warriors”, go out and do the “real work” of action, whether it be preaching the gospel or some other expression of Christian service or ministry.

Consistent quality and quantity time in prayer is the ultimate statement of dependence upon God.

Jesus said that “it is the Spirit who gives life, and that the flesh is NO HELP AT ALL”. When we devote ourselves to prayer and communion with God, that is his opportunity, through the Spirit, to reveal HIS strategy. That is where he inspires ACTION.

The alternative to a focus on prayer is to rely upon our own understanding, our own plans, our own strength to fulfill the great commission.  No matter how noble and Biblical our objectives may be, our individual efforts will not bear fruit unless they are inspired, directed and empowered by the Spirit of God. We were never intended to operate independently, and we won’t get very far if we do.

We need to devote ourselves to prayer as a matter of first priority and first precedence.

We must place ourselves in God’s presence, at his feet, in his council to hear his voice. Rest assured, if we put first things first, He will be faithful to inspire and direct us to ACT, and that action — whatever it may be — will be accompanied by His grace and anointing.
